This endowment was established with a bequest from the Lillian Englmann estate. Lillian Winifred Dreesman Englmann died of cancer in Vancouver, Washington on September 26, 2000. Lillian was born in Wenatchee in 1923 and was raised and educated through high school in Cashmere, Washington. She attended Washington State College where she earned her B.S. degree in Education and Counselor’s Certification in 1947. Lill was a lifelong enthusiastic supporter of her university, enjoying its sporting, musical and special campus events. She continued her education through personal enrichment classes at Clark College. Lillian taught Home Economics and was a counselor at Battle Ground High School from 1947 to 1979, when she retired. Lill met her husband, Joe Englmann, at Battle Ground, where he also taught. Born March 5, 1917, Joe had earned a BS in Physical Education and a BA in Education from WSU in 1941, and later his MS in Education. While at WSU, Joe was a varsity football player and a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity. Joe retired from Portland Public Schools, and he died in 1986. Lillian enjoyed all aspects of food, spending time at their cabin in Central Oregon, traveling, and being involved with her community. Her and Joe took trips to China, Russia, Ireland, Mexico, New Zealand, the Galapagos Islands, and other locations in Europe. Lill was a member of local guild of the Children’s Hospital of Seattle, Delta Kappa Gamma, a stitchery group, WSU Alumni Association, Elderhostel, and supported the local Human Society. She was a 50-year Golden Grad of Washington State University in 1997.
Award Requirements
The income from this fund shall be used to award one or more scholarships to junior or senior undergraduate students at Washington State University majoring in Food Science or Human Development, with first preference to students who have demonstrated a commitment to teaching in these disciplines of Home Economics.
