Born in 1936 to a farm family near Onalaska, Washington, Glen Franklin attended Washington State University as a veteran, using the G.I. Bill for the costs of his undergraduate study, and graduated in 1961. Between graduate and undergraduate studies, he attended the University of Bonn in Germany and worked for the U.S. government. Graduate study for MA and PhD degrees, at the University of Oregon, was also supported by federal fellowships which led to his understanding that financial support is essential for many deserving students. After teaching at the university level for nine years, Dr. Franklin moved to Canada and began farming in Northern Canada and Alaska in 1974. He has worked for the Agriculture Division of Alaska State Department of Natural Resources since 1977. The Franklin Graduate Fellows will assist WSU researchers and scientists in Alaska studying agronomic problems common to both Washington and Alaska.
Award Requirements
The proceeds from the endowment fund may be used to provide fellowship stipends to be used by the recipient for such things as tuition and fees, subsistence, research expenses, and other educationally related costs.
