Joye Dillman, Associate Professor Emeritus in Human Development, endowed the Human Development Online Degree Scholarship. Joye retired from the department in May of 2008 after serving the department for 36 years. She was primarily responsible for developing the department’s internship program in 1977 and served as internship supervisor during the first five years of the program. She also served the department for one year as interim department chair. Joye was an excellent instructor for the family resource management courses and had an active research program on family housing. Most relevant to this scholarship, from 2001 until 2008, Joye was lead faculty advisor for Human Development students pursuing the HD degree at a distance. She also successfully developed articulation agreements with most of the community colleges in the state. Joye made numerous contributions to the WSU Online program and created the first departmental scholarship for online students. It is my intent as a donor to insure that the department will be able to acknowledge and support gifted HD students at a distance in the years to come.
Award Requirements
The distributions from this fund shall be used for a scholarship which is to be awarded to a Washington State University junior or senior student who has enrolled in and is completing the Bachelor of Arts in Human Development through the Online Degree Program. The student should demonstrate leadership in volunteer or work activities within his/her home community while an online student.
