Bowman, George A. and Joyce N. Endowed Scholarship

George Bowman was born February 29, 1916 in Los Angeles, California. He received his bachelor’s degree in agriculture from the University of California at Davis. While in college, he joined the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps and following graduation in 1940, he was commissioned a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He married Joyce N. Lees on December 20, 1941. George A. and Joyce N. Bowman were married for 55 years. Three children were born to this union, Ralph Bowman, Mary Legry and Toni Bowman.  The Bowman family established their connection to Washington State University in 1956 when George became research editor for the College of Agriculture where he worked for 25 years, retiring in 1981. Joyce Bowman graduated from WSU with a BA in Liberal Arts, majoring in social studies.

Award Requirements

The income from this fund shall be used to award one or more scholarships to Washington State University students interested in agricultural communication and to fund travel to communications related conferences and meetings.
