Through a will the Velma Phillips Scholarship was established for student studying areas in Home Economics. The first scholarship was given in 1961.
Award Requirements
The recipient must be a home economics major at Washington State University with preference given to students in the following order: 1) Senior year; 2) Graduate work or fifth year; 3) Junior year; 4) Underclass student (if there is no satisfactory applicant in the upper classes). Personal factors that should be considered are financial need, scholarship, and high potential in Home Economics (in that order).
