Rehberg, Wallace A. (Wally) Scholarship

Wallace  A. (Wally) Rehberg was raised in rural Montana where at the age of 14 he became solely responsible for a herd of 100 dairy cattle when the other young men went off to serve in World War II.  Wally later went on to attend Montana State University where he received his undergraduate degree in 1949 and later received his masters degree in 1959.  He earned his PhD in Agricultural Economics in 1963 from the University of Wisconsin.  He began his academic career at WSU in 1962.  He taught courses in marketing, farm management, agribusiness and agricultural law.  He conducted research related to livestock marketing.  He also served as an Extension Livestock Marketing Economist.

Wally was extremely popular with students.  He cared deeply for his students, in courses and as advisees.  He was a positive influence in motivating hundreds of student over his 31 years in the Department of Agricultural Economics (now School of Economic Sciences).  He received the R. M. Wade award and was twice nominated by the undergraduate students in the department for the outstanding advisor in the college.  This scholarship was set up through many donations from students, family and friends.

Award requirements:

This fund shall be used to award one or more scholarships to an undergraduate student in the School of Economic Sciences.  Recipients must have a junior or senior class standing and declared their major in either agricultural economics or agribusiness.
