CAHNRS Communications Core Services

Below are the core services that CAHNRS Communications provides. Because the college and extension is quite large, most unit-level (department or county) projects are done on a pay for service basis. Please see below for additional information.

Service Center Fees

CAHNRS Communications will perform work outside the scope of its core services for a fee, based upon personnel availability. Rates for services are as follows:

  • Copy Editing:
    • $38/hr, internal clients (CAHNRS, grant-funded WSU projects)
    • $41/hr, external clients
  • Video Editing:
    • $56/hr
    • Certified vendors
      • Their going rate
  • Routine Website updates and design:
    • $34/hr, internal clients
    • $37/hr, grant-funded projects
  • Graphic design:
    • $50/hr
  • Service Center
    • $42/hr (in-house coordinating)

News/Content

  1. Write timely news releases
  2. Develop feature stories

  1. Maintain visual branding resources

  7. Layout/design of annual Reconnect magazine

Web

  1. Maintain WordPress content management system
  2. Optimize Web pages for mobile
  3. Consult with clients to ensure Website performance
  4. Test and ensure Website usability
  5. Provide regular Web analytics/performance reports
  6. Provide training for clients/users (online or Pullman)
  7. Maintain standard Web templates
  8. Create and maintain new templates
  9. Maintain a list of supported WP plugins
  10. Maintain html templates and html email services
  11. Maintain Advanced Hardwood Biofuels’ Web presence

Publications

  1. Maintain Extension online store
  2. Maintain physical inventory of Extension publications/materials
  3. Process online and phone orders
  4. Provide printing estimates
  5. Coordinate printing function
  6. Oversee FastTrack system
  7. Coordinate publications production with authors

Shipping

  1. Organize publications inventory
  2. Ship Extension publications (24-hour turnaround)
  3. Provide storage and publications shipping services to county Extension
  4. Courier print jobs for departments

Editing

  1. Provide editing for Extension publications
  2. Edit newsletters (OSG, GT, and VotV)
  3. Edit news releases
  4. Edit feature stories
  5. Edit five main Web pages/portals
  6. Edit ReConnect alumni magazine

Marketing

  1. Write copy for advertisements
  2. Provide consultation to departments
  3. Provide basic market research as needed (focus groups and surveys)
  4. Develop marketing plans

Beyond Core Services (for a fee; see Service Center Fees, above)

  1. Marketing copy for student recruitment materials
  2. Extension event promotion (e.g. Women’s Conference, Beef Conference)
  3. Travel costs
  4. Hard advertising and promotional costs
  5. Any grant-funded project
  6. Departmental newsletters
  7. Professional event photography
  8. Event Websites, micro-sites, or any custom Web design/development (except for CAHNRS Honors and Fall Festival)
  9. Mobile application development
  10. Specialized training requests

1 Some events require professional level photography – costs should be borne by the requesting unit.

2 Alumni & Friends and CAHNRS Communications are developing a proposal to produce two print issues of ReConnect per year.

3 Major videos: quality and complexity is similar to the “Renaissance of Grain” video. Minor videos: quality and complexity is similar to PHM informational videos.
