For the third year in a row, the Department of Animal Sciences at Washington State University has claimed the national ice cream trophy, the “Big Scoop.”
The department’s dairy students and faculty, partnering with the WSU Creamery, won their third American Society of Animal Sciences Ice Cream Competition.
Attendees at the Society’s annual meeting, held July 9 in Baltimore, Md., voted with their spoons to declare WSU’s creamy Huckleberry Ripple the winner.

Experts in forest management, wildlife habitat and other land stewardship disciplines will share timely information with family forest owners in northeast Washington and north Idaho at an upcoming Family Forest Field Day, Saturday, July 15, near Athol, Idaho.
This “out-in-the-woods” educational event helps meet the needs of landowners and managers with five or 500 acres. Washington State University Extension Foresters will host an upcoming field day for owners of privately held forest and range lands in southeastern Washington.
The Forest and Range Owners Field Day is Saturday, June 24, on the Dickinson property at Cougar Canyon near Dayton, Wash. Gates open at 8 a.m., and the program follows from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
