2017 Washington Grain Commission Research Pre-Proposal

Review Process for FY 2019 Funding (beginning July 1, 2018)

 

The Washington Grain Commission (WGC) is arranging a preproposal forum for researchers to present and receive feedback on new research ideas and proposal renewals. Through this process, the WGC and representatives of the cereal industry from each county will provide feedback to researchers regarding the WGC’s interest in receiving a full proposal, suggest modifications to project objectives, and provide other relevant input.

Date/time:      Tuesday, October 31, 2017, 9 AM – 12 noon; WSU Alumni Center Regent’s Room, WSU Pullman campus

Who:               i) Researchers intending to propose new projects to the WGC; ii) researchers with existing WGC projects scheduled to terminate in June 2018 and hoping to renew funding for the project; or iii) researchers who intend to revise or combine existing projects. If you intend to propose a new project or renewal you must contact the appropriate team leader(Rich Koenig: richk@wsu.edu) and discuss/declare this intent by Wednesday, October 18, 2017.

Format:           Individual researchers identified under “Who” should be prepared to deliver a brief (5-minute, including Q/A) presentation and then answer questions on their projects by attending members of the WGC board, WGC staff, and other representatives of the cereal industry.

Preproposal:      Researchers proposing new or renewed projects should provide a ≤ two page concept statement that includes a brief justification, specific objectives, brief description of methods employed, a firm budget, and a brief list of other current/pending support for this or closely related projects. In addition, answer the following questions: “What measureable impact has your project contributed in the last 3 years?” (for renewing projects); What measureable impact will your project contribute in the next 3 years? (new/renewing projects).

 

The preproposal must be formatted as a PDF and sent to the appropriate team leader and copied to Mary Palmer Sullivan (mary@wagrains.org; 509-456-2481) no later than 5 pm, Monday, October 23, 2017.
