Q. Does this course count for credits?
Yes! Teachers are awarded 30 clock hours (additional $60) and other professions qualify for 3 continuing education credits through WSU’s Global Campus. In addition, graduate students can enroll in Tidal Leadership as a two credit course through WSU. For more information please see the Course Offerings page.
Q. Do scholarships and tuition waivers apply?
Offering scholarships is part of CTLL’s long-term vision and we hope to offer them at some point in the future. Graduate students will note that Tidal Leadership is offered at a significant price reduction for your cohort in particular. Tidal Leadership is a 2 credit course for graduate students and we recommend talking with graduate advisors about using tuition waivers or paying for / discussing a cost-sharing solution for this course as part of your professional development.
Q. Do I need to have previous experience in online classes/online learning to be successful in this program?
No, you do not need previous experience in online classes to be successful in this program. The program is built to guide you through learning the online course space, Blackboard, and tap into skills and knowledge you already have working in the online environment. There will be tutorials on how to use the online environment included in an orientation and available throughout the program.
Q: What exactly is an online class?
An online class is simply a class where we meet virtually over the Internet. You can participate in this class from the comfort of your home or wherever you have a computer and online access. This online class includes videos, blog entries and comments, downloadable PDFs, and live chats. You can participate in the lessons whenever the timing is best for you. You do not have to be present at a certain time.
It is a cutting-edge way to do a class, and we will be doing it together as individuals from all walks of life, of all ages, from all over the world. We work hard to make our classes as personal as possible so that we can all feel like we are actually together. We wish we could meet every participant in Tidal Leadership personally, but this is the next best thing and enables individuals from all over the world to participate in this transformational curriculum.
Q: How will this program operate?
Each week, for 12 weeks, a new module will be presented on the class website, Blackboard (you’ll have a special login which will be sent to you just prior to the first day of class).
IMPORTANT! Just because the lessons are released weekly doesn’t mean you only have a week to complete them. You will have access to the modules throughout your program and will be able to review the lessons as you wish. Please note that we do keep a weekly schedule that requires your engagement and continued pacing with your cohort. The classroom will remain open for 16 weeks total.
Each module is a bit different and presents varied learning opportunities and methods. These include but are not limited to short video presentations, reflection work to help you better understand the main concept(s), and PDF worksheets to download with prompts intended to help you apply the information.
Throughout the course, you will be completing Portfolio Pieces to build your personalized portfolio that demonstrates your leadership competencies. These portfolios represent your understanding of the curriculum and highlight your ability to apply and use the skills, tools, and knowledge you’re cultivating effectively in your day-to-day life.
There will also be a lot of community interaction with the other members of your cohort. We use the latest technology to present the class materials, so you will need a fast computer, a high-speed internet connection, webcam and speakers, and access to a good printer.
Q. What is the purpose or the intended outcome of this certificate program?
If you have heard anything about Tidal Leadership, you know that the curriculum is developed and skillfully taught by the CTLL facilitation team and is truly life changing. Presented in a meaningful and extremely relatable way, the facilitators combine their own stories and life experiences with Tidal Leadership content to teach participants how to get unstuck, develop critical skills, and live their best sense of self.
Because it will take personal leadership to guide your life by the Tidal knowledge that you will find and remember, and to practice putting aside those voices that are confusing, judgmental, and opinionated, this curriculum is intended to continue beyond the 16 weeks of the certificate program, giving each participant a set of skills and tools that they will carry throughout their life.
Q. What kind of time do I need to be able to participate in this certificate program?
The most important things you need for the Tidal Leadership Certificate Program™ are:
COMMITMENT to the curriculum, and a WILLINGNESS to be a powerful, reliable, and highly influential leader.
We want you, and your cohort, to have a transformational experience, so before you decide to sign up for this program, we ask that you truly commit to doing the work, including reading, reflecting, attending synchronous online meetings, and communicating with members of your cohort, etc.
Each module can take anywhere from 2-8 hours or more depending on how much time you want to invest (this is not a requirement, only a personal preference). If you don’t think you can invest at least a few hours a week on this program, it might not be the best time for you to sign up. We don’t want you to feel overwhelmed, or like you are missing out.
Again, we want you to have a powerful personal leadership experience, and this program can truly be transformational with your commitment.
Q: What is the purpose of this program?
To create awareness of conscious communication, to empower people to explore and practice effective communication strategies in personal and professional settings, and to explore strategies for transforming one’s ability to navigate difficult situations from a value-based perspective.
Q: What is “Tidal” Leadership?
Title-driven leadership implies that someone has been granted permission to lead based on the title of the position that they hold. The amount of influence associated with one’s title should reflect leadership ability; however, in reality the magnitude of a title often does not accurately reflect the ability of that person to be a positive influencer. We invite you to view leadership from a different perspective: “Tidal” leadership is a form of leadership that ebbs and flows in a synergistic, powerful way that positively influences the surrounding “environment”. By developing tidal leadership skills, you will become a powerful, reliable, highly influential energy source that manifests a value-based vision of excellence by expanding your ability to communicate with and engage effectively with others.
