This endowment in the name of Timothy H. Blosser was established by his three children Patrick Blosser, Douglas Blosser, and Susan (Blosser) Lacy and created in honor of his 80th birthday. Timothy Blosser was born in Nappanee, Indiana on January 7, 1920. His father was a purebred Holstein cattle breeder. Tim received his B. S. from Purdue University in 1941 and then served in the U. S. Army during World War II from 1942-46. After the war, Tim continued on with his education at the University of Wisconsin and received his M. S. in 1947 and his PhD in 1949 with joint majors in Dairy Husbandry and Biochemistry. Tim Blosser married Dorothy Mattingley in 1945. Dr. Blosser began his career here at Washington State College in 1948 as an Assistant Professor of Dairy Husbandry. He served as the Chairman of the Department of Dairy Science from 1961-63 and Chairman of the Department of Animal Sciences from 1964-74. The Agricultural Research Service of the United States Department of Agriculture in Beltsville, MD employed him from 1974-88. Dr. Blosser was an active scientist and administrator serving as President, 1978-79, Vice-President, 1977-78 and Treasurer, 1980-83, of the American Dairy Science Association. Dr. Blosser also received the Outstanding Service Award in 1989 from the Department of Animal Sciences at WSU. Dr. Blosser holds a lifelong commitment to agricultural education. This fellowship fund was created to honor his commitment to furthering the education of WSU graduate students.
Award Requirements
The fellowship shall be awarded to students who are conducting dairy cattle research or research associated with dairy cattle in the Department of Animal Sciences in the College of Agriculture and Home Economics. The proceeds from the endowment fund may be used to provide fellowship stipends to be used by the recipient for such things as travel expenses, conference expenses, professional meeting expenses and associated costs to attending these types of programs. Preference will be given to graduate students that are presenting relevant material at the meeting.
