This scholarship was established to honor Colleen Nolan’s parents, William T. (Bill) and Betty Jo (nee Klingele). Her father grew up in King County, Washington, and her mother grew up in Yakima County, Washington. While growing up both raised livestock and were avid equestrians. Both were members of FFA in high school. The Nolan’s had three children, Colleen, Timothy, and Sean. They moved to the Chehalis are in the early 1960’s and established a ranch where they raised cattle and horses. William T. Nolan died at the age of 40 in 1971 but the desire that he and Betty Jo had for their children to attend college continued. Colleen graduated from WSU with a BS in Animal Sciences and the University Honors Program in 1982. While at WSU she was a member of Block and Bridle and the Livestock and Carcass Judging Teams and lived and worked at both the Old Beef Barn (prior to its conversion to the Lewis Alumni Center) and the Sheep Center. In 1982 she was named the Outstanding Senior in Animal Sciences. The love, support and encouragement that Bill and Betty Jo Nolan gave their children is being recognized in a small way through the establishment of this endowed scholarship.
Award requirements:
This scholarship is to benefit a senior Animal Sciences or senior Agricultural Education student with a GPA of no less than 3.0. Preference is for a first generation student from Lewis County, Kent or Yakima areas in Washington State.
