Viticulture and Enology from a Larger Perspective: Achieving Quality in Large Operations

This year’s tour will provide you with an insider’s perspective into large grape growing and winemaking operations. Specific topics include: best management practices for pest and disease prevention, a review of research on GLRV and Red Blotch, an examination of red wine barrel fermentation and tracking using small lots, and an in-depth discussion of labor challenges and efficiencies including hiring, training, management, mechanization alternatives, and temporary labor. Participants will gain an insider’s look at the storage tanks and production set-up of the largest super-premium winemaking facility in the Northwest.
