Agricultural Education

Double the Projects, Double the Research

My mentor was Dr. Candis Carraway and we worked on two projects over the course of my internship. The first researched the barriers and benefits of an agricultural education specific Master’s degree at Washington State University. The second was a study on the knowledge and application of supervised agricultural experiences by Washington agricultural teachers.

The Ignite program as a whole helped me get quickly acquainted with the different research projects and faculty researchers within CAHNRS. It also allowed me to work directly with my academic advisor.

Growing My Passions

The benefit that had the most impact was getting to research something I was truly interested in. Through my research, I was able to learn more about the professionals in my field and connect with others who shared similar ideas and innovations.

Dr. Carraway has vast experience developing and administering surveys. This was a skill that, once she taught me, went a long way in helping us create the foundation for an effective study.

My favorite part of the research was getting to learn more about the state of my future profession in Washington State. It presented an opportunity to observe specific areas where I myself could strive to improve as I enter the teaching community, and showed ways I can help others improve even now.

Ignite and Beyond

Since the internship ended, I have continued working on research with Dr. Carraway. We have both finished and presented our research at several professional conferences, some out of state, and have also explored ways to follow up the study or expand given the current goings on in these fields now two years later.
