Enjoying some downtime

I had a couple of slow days last week. The office time made for a good opportunity to get outside over the weekend and take advantage of the nice weather. The snow shovel will be out soon enough. For many, this means that field work is winding down and winter meeting season is gearing up. Things turned out well for the football team in Fresno this weekend, too.

Thanks to Scot Hulbert and the many people across CAHNRS, including partners, who are wrapping up our next strategic plan. The plan operationalizes the key goals, actions, and metrics necessary to build a more Resilient Washington and world. We will use the upcoming roadshow to provide an update on the plan and other topics while collecting additional input before the finishing touches are complete. I look forward to catching up with those able to attend the roadshow sessions. I missed the Fall Extension Conference earlier this month and haven’t stopped by any Extension offices in a while. It will be nice to get out and connect.

Things are busy with the Board of Natural Resources. The election could translate to many changes. I spent the weekend reading a number of documents, trying to get ahead before the November meeting. Emotions are running high surrounding board decisions and there is no easy answer that simultaneously addresses the goals of citizens, the local economy, and the timber sale trust beneficiaries. I don’t envy the Department of Natural Resources staff, who appear caught in the middle and are often the subject of seemingly personal attacks.

I imagine Pullman will be hectic this weekend with homecoming activities. The downtown construction appears to be getting more complicated, if that’s possible. Everyone stay safe!
