The final week

FFA students walk down a sidewalk near Martin Stadium on the WSU Pullman campus.
In Pullman, we are preparing to welcome the Washington FFA next week for their annual convention.

Congratulations to Christopher Clarke, this year’s WSU Oaks Academic Technology Award winner. Chris was honored for his innovative and transformative use of technology to enhance student learning! Following the workshop held for CAHNRS a couple of weeks ago, I hope there is an increase in innovative and transformative educational approaches that will prepare our students for opportunity-filled careers.

It is finals week. Just a few short exams and many celebrations before campus becomes quieter and students put their acquired skills and knowledge to work. Things don’t slow down on our campuses or at any of the CAHNRS locations across the state. In Pullman, we are preparing to welcome the Washington FFA next week for their annual convention. Many of our locations are preparing for summer field days. There’s no such thing as downtime for CAHNRS!

I thought I had completed annual reviews for the year. I have one remaining this week, after having to reschedule it a couple times. Then I will assemble documents for the incoming provost and for my own review and that of the college. It is a good time to look at our progress and think about priority areas for future improvement.

This week, the CAHNRS Advisory Council met. It has been a while since the college had an Advisory Council. Because we met by Zoom this week, the meeting was a brief one of introductions and establishing operational practices. We planned for additional Zoom interactions before our first in-person meeting in the fall. The Advisory Council will provide meaningful input as CAHNRS thinks about its future.

I hope the rest of the week goes well for everyone and we have a good turnout for commencement. The families who travel from far away for their graduates bring energy and gratitude with them. Let’s make sure they know how much we appreciate their presence.
