I wanted to stay in Washington state for school and WSU has one of the best agricultural programs in the state, making WSU the perfect fit for me! Not to mention I am a third-generation coug!

There are a lot of much needed jobs for CAHNRS majors, and the Student Success and Academic Programs office makes sure to connect us with industries related to our major where we can meet one on one and get our name out.

What is special about being a CAHNRS Coug?

Being a CAHNRS Coug means meeting so many different people in different fields, but all having an appreciation for growing and learning together.

Favorite class taken at WSU?

There are so many! I would probably have to pick Dr. Irlbeck’s Animal Science 315 class – Captive Exotic Animal Nutrition, Husbandry, and Management. Over the short summer semester, I attended lectures that looked at various animals for all their basic needs – from aquatic, reptiles, insects, avian, and larger mammal species. By the end of the semester, I had created a miniature zoo addressing all 5 Freedoms and considering their welfare. I also really enjoy learning from Dr. Irlbeck who has a lot of experience in this field.

Why WSU?

I chose WSU because of the community primarily, but I also love the Pullman area. There is such a diverse community and a wide range of opportunities for everyone that I really felt that I would find my place during my time here.

Advice for underclassmen

The best advice I could give is to develop connections with your professors early on. Having a personal connection with your professors makes your academic experience so much more motivating. Also don’t be afraid to get involved in clubs and organizations, other people are in the exact same position as you. Make your experience here fun and unique!
