In a CAHNRS class it will most likely be hands on and filled with other CAHNRS cougs which makes it easier to make friends in or related to your major. There are a lot of much needed jobs for CAHNRS majors, and the Student Success and Academic Programs office makes sure to connect us with industries related to our major where we can meet one on one and get our name out.

Extracurricular Involvement
Why WSU?

I chose WSU because it was far from home (but still in-state) and I was intrigued by its environmental science program. WSU is known for being a big university with a small town feel, many research opportunities, and has good name recognition. After I visited in the summer, and toured the campus with my neighbors from home who were WSU students, it sealed the deal.

What is special about being a CAHNRS Coug?

Having the opportunity within the curriculum to visit local farms, hiking points, and waste plants. Additionally, the students I’ve met have been amazing, and the faculty are super supportive.

Advice for Underclassmen

Use an online calendar (religiously), make a lot of friends (or a few close ones) within the first week, as it only becomes harder the busier you become. Expect the mailing system to be slower in the early part of the year, as everyone will be receiving care packages from their family members. Keep your dorm door open, bring good walking shoes, participate in extracurriculars, attend events that you see on flyers, and don’t be afraid to ask for help.

Favorite Spot on Campus

It’s off campus, but there’s a bench where I like to sit and watch the South Fork Palouse River. You can find it if you cross the Bill Chipman Trail bridge near the Brelsford visitors center.
